History
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal benefit, service organization. Founded by Fr. Michael J. McGivney in 1882 in New Haven, CT, K of C activities focus on serving the Church, community, youth and family.

The Knights Today
The St. Matthias K of C Council was chartered in May 2006 with 39 members and has since grown to 55. In our first three years, we earned the “Star Council” award which is the highest honor possible from the Supreme Council of the K of C. This award recognizes accomplishments in program activity, membership and insurance growth. Members volunteer and attend functions as their time permits. We are not a high pressure organization. The Knights of Columbus in Michigan has 70,000 members, and world wide the Order has more than 1.9 million. Last year the Knights volunteered more than 69 million hours and contributed over $140 million to charitable and community causes. The fraternal benefit program available to members has over $80 billion of insurance underwritten.
